Cab drivers in Sacramento are hoping to the brakes on a proposal requiring them to pass a language test.
The cabbies are upset about a proposed city ordinance that would require all drivers to pass an English proficiency test, show knowledge of local geography and basic math.
A group of drivers marched on City Hall yesterday voicing their opposition.
The "Sacramento Bee" reports that other things included would be a dress code and requirement for cab cleanliness.
City officials say the proposal is an effort to professionalize the downtown taxi service.
