If the American River looks a bit more full this morning, there's a reason.  

The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation began doubling water releases from Nimbus Dam from 500 to 1000 feet per second last night at 8.

That flow will last for until tonight at 8.

Experts are calling this a pulse flow that is intended to free freshly hatched salmon that may be trapped within gravel and also to help very young salmon get futher down river where there is more habitat.
