Do you know where your license plate is this morning? That question isn't as dumb as it seems.
Police say we're seeing more license plates theft in the Sacramento region.
In fact, a CHP officer tells a local TV station that thieves most likely want to get your registration sticker.
He says the idea is usually to either disguise a stolen car or use the registration sticker to avoid paying for one of their own.
Replacing your plate and sticker will cost you about $20.
If your plate is stolen you're required to tell the police and the DMV.
Otherwise you could have explaining to do if your plate or sticker are traced to a crime committed with the car to which they're transferred by the thieves.
It's suggested you use special screws to attach your plate -- they can bought at automotive stores -- and deter the thieves.
