Tonight is National Night Out.

Communities across the nation, with Neighborhood Watch programs, are gathering with local law enforcement agencies to celebrate a strong sense of community and the desire to keep neighborhoods safe.

One Community in El Dorado County is putting on quite a party tonight.

"Last year we received the No. 1 for our category in the nation for National Night Out, and so this year, we are actively defending that title," Lt. Kin Nida with the Placerville Police Department said.

Live music and barbecues are just part of the fun planned, and it's all for a very important cause.

"The point of National Night Out is to get everybody out of their houses and to meet your neighbors, meet law enforcement. And we are approachable, and we want to answer questions, and be there for the neighborhood. It's all about community policing at its best," she said.

Celebrations are taking place all over the Valley and foothills tonight beginning around 6, you can check your local law enforcement office web site for times and locations.
