Two water agencies are calling for a state board investigation into allegations that Delta farmers are taking water released from upstream dams intended for consumers.
The California Department of Water Resources and U.S. Bureau of Reclamation are asking the state board to investigate water rights in the south and central Delta to see if landowners are taking water that doesn't belong to them.
The DWR and Reclamation -- in a letter released in July -- are asking the State Water Resources Control Board to use their emergency powers to launch the investigation.
However, farmers on the other hand are against it, denying any wrongdoing.
The California Sportfishing Protection Alliance has countered by filing a formal complaint against DWR and Reclamation, accusing the two agencies of diverting water from four major rivers that flow into the Delta.
