A noticeable vacant lot in Midtown may finally see some new construction.

Sacramento City Unified School District owns the acre site at 16th and N streets, which is home to an old district office.

"It's been largely vacant for 10 years," district spokesman Gabe Ross said.

Ross says the board is considering just what to do with the property.

They've seen proposals for mixed-use housing and retail, a Native American cultural center and health clinic, or 130-room hotel. Whatever happens, there are plans to re-purpose the current building.

"It is on a historical registry, so I think that limits the options to some degree," Ross said.

The developers differ on plans to either buy or lease the property.

The school board will discuss the proposals at its next meeting on May 15.
