Want to help the economy? Take a vacation.
If Americans used all their allotted vacation time, the U.S. economy would gain an additional $160 billion in vacation spending. That's the finding of a study from the U.S. Travel Association.
"It seems like there's the potential to benefit, not only the U.S. economy through perhaps travel, but even companies performing better as their employees are just experiencing a more balanced lifestyle," said Adam Sachs, whose group did the study.
So if it's a win-win, why aren't more workers taking time off?
Sachs did note that although managers agree time off is good in theory, not all bosses like when their employees take time off.
"They're less dedicated and they're less likely to get a promotion," he said.
