Part of the funding in the newly-passed water bond will provide for a long-awaited project.
Although Congressman John Garamendi was still growing up back then, he's been a consistent in-office supporter of the Sites Reservoir project.
It's a plan to flood 14,000 acres of the Colusa County Valley a few miles west of Maxwell.
It's not on a water source, so pumps would transfer it from the Sacramento River in surplus years.
"It gives great flexibility to the operations, it's located where you will need water in the future, for the fish in the river as well as for the Delta," Garamendi said.
Garmendi has authored a bill to speed up a federal study of the land.
Once filled, in years, the site would hold twice as much water as Folsom Lake does.
