California students are getting new online help as they plan for their careers and college.

The enhanced websites are part of the Department of Education's Career Readiness Initiative.

Russell Weikle of the Career and College Transition Division says students can now asses themselves, explore job sectors and make financial choices on the Career Zone website.

"That actually allows the students go in and find out what it costs to rent an apartment or own a home or buy a car. They basically develop a lifestyle for what they want to do, and then they can investigate the careers that would fit that lifestyle," Weikle said.

The California Career Center website is also being upgraded.  There students can download an app to begin exploring careers on their mobile devices.
