President Obama has convened an international conference call to discuss the growing crisis in Ukraine.
The President is trying to maintain allied support for tough new targeted sanctions against Russia.
He spoke by telephone with his European counterparts about a response to what the White House now describes as "the alarming situation in Eastern Ukraine."
"The Europeans and the United States have been consistent in calibrating sanctions that could provide a deterrent to the Russians," Obama said.
While there's no word of unity on new sanctions the administration does say the President and European leaders agreed to work together to impose costs to Russia.
