Winery Near Sand Fire Changes Hands

A well-known winery in Amador County is changing owners after nearly 35 years in business.

With less than a mile to spare, firefighters stopped the Sand Fire from destroying the Amador Foothill Winery, and that's good news for the new owners.

Ben Zeitman and Katie Quinn sold their winery and 32-acres in Plymouth to Tom and Beth Jones.

The Jones owned the Lava Cap Winery in Camino before selling their shares last year.

They tell the Sacramento Bee they wanted a winery that was a manageable size so they could work on it themselves.

Zeitman says he'll miss the view of the hills nearby, however, he's 79-years-old, in good health and says he's had enough fun.

Now Zeitman and his wife are retired and plan to enjoy their free time in Jackson.
