SACRAMENTO -- A woman who tortured her step-daughter may spend her life in prison.

Duewa Lee, 37, was convicted of beating the child, who was 12 at the time, with electrical cords.

She also put a hot iron on her back, stapled her ear, and threw her down the stairs. She would also starve the girl, who suffered life-threatening injuries and is permanently disfigured. The weeks of abuse ended in September of 2011 when the girl got away from Lee at a Sacramento area DMV and asked a stranger for help.

Judge Cheryl Meegan sentenced Lee today to 16 years-to-life in prison.
