The levee system surrounding Woodland is being rated unacceptable by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Inspections by the Sacramento District cite encroachments, erosion, bank caving, cracking, seepage and rodent control as the most serious deficiencies.

"As a result of this levee inspection, this levee is not eligible for any rehabilitation assistance after a flood for any damages that might be caused by the flood," Levee Safety Program Manager Ryan Larson said.

Larson says Sacramento's Corps of Engineers will, however, continue to provide system assistance regardless of its status.

Meanwhile, the Flood Protection Board is working with levee maintaining agencies to resolve the issues.
