Yuba County is joining a separatist movement in Northern California that seems to be gaining steam.

Yuba County's board of supervisors this week made Yuba County the fourth in Northern California to officially support the formation of the State of Jefferson.

Siskiyou, Modoc and Glenn counties have already joined the Jefferson movement to create a 51st state that supporters say would get them out from under political influences of Southern California.

Tehama County will put the question to voters on the June ballot. Officials in Lassen County, Trinity, and Placer Counties are also talking about secession.

This isn't new, though. The Jefferson movement has been simmering since the early '40s, but a 51st state would take an act of Congress.
