Significant rain this weekend into next week is likely to bring widespread flooding across the Sacramento region, and that has emergency management officials urging you to get prepared now.

With three to five inches of rain expected in the Sacramento Valley and more than a foot of snow likely to fall in some parts of the Sierra by Monday, Brooke Bingaman of the National Weather Service says flooding is possible. "Do you have all the supplies you need and documents you might need to take with you?" Bingaman says, "If not you should gather them all today and tomorrow in case you need to leave your house."
She also recommends you be prepared to take shelter in your home should flooding or mudslides block your way out. "Do you have enough food?," she cautioned. "Do you have enough drinking water, (and) what about medical supplies?" Then there are the animals in your life. "What are you going to about pets if you have any?"
Sacramento County's Matt Robinson says if you live near a river or any area that's prone to flooding, you'll want to pick up a supply of sandbags. "We have five locations in the county that opened up, and we plan on opening up more (Friday)," he said.
