Tower Records founder and Sacramento native Russ Solomon is dead.
Solomon founded what became an international and iconic record chain in the world from a counter inside his Dad's drugstore on Broadway. That space is now the Tower Cafe.
A deli bearing Solomon's name is under construction in the old Tower Records space on K Street. His son says Russ was watching the Oscars, asked his wife to refill his whiskey and when she returned with the glass, he was dead in his chair.
Russ Solomon was 92 years old.
