Shirley Temple Black Has Died At The Age of 85

A sad note today out of the world of entertainment. Former child star Shirley Temple has died. The actress, who was known throughout her adult life as Shirley Temple Black, died of natural causes yesterday in her Southern California home. Temple was well-known for her roles in 1930s films such as "Bright Eyes," "Curly Top," and "Heidi."

She captivated the public in four major box office draws before the age of ten. The actress holds the 18th spot on the American Film Institute's list of the all-time greatest female screen legends. Temple retired from the film industry at 22 before pursuing a career as a foreign diplomat. She served as the U.S. ambassador to Ghana and Czechoslovakia and became the first female Chief of Protocol of the United States. Shirley Temple Black was 85:
