Police are responding en masse at a veterans home north of San Francisco after reports that a man dressed in body armor fired shot and has taken hostages.
Reports say the man is armed with an automatic weapon and dressed in black entered the sprawling Veterans Home of California in Yountville.
Police responded and exchanged fire with the suspect, who is reportedly armed with a rifle. The gunman released a number of hostages but is still holding three staff members in a room.
Officials say no deputies have been injured but the status of the hostages is currently unknown.
The "Napa Valley Register" says the suspect is believed to have been a member of the Pathway Home program, which helps veterans with PTSD. The suspect had reportedly been kicked out of the program two weeks ago.
The Yountville Vet home dates to 1884. It's the largest vet home in the U.S. and has 1,000 vets from World War Two, Korean War, Vietnam War, Desert Storm, and Operation Enduring Freedom.
