An Auburn man facing felony kidnapping and assault charges is set to return to court next week.
Placer County authorities say Yonel Hernandez-Velasco made his first court appearance yesterday. He was arrested Saturday after he allegedly grabbed a three-year-old girl by the hand and attempted to drag her away from her mother.
The suspect was detained after the girl's father punched him in the face.
Hernandez-Velasco, who was in possession of handcuffs and tried to use them as a weapon, remains in jail on $1.2-million bail.
