Law Enforcement Will Collect DNA Evidence From East Area Rapist Suspect

The judge in the case of the suspected East Area Rapist says no to the effort to block investigators from taking his DNA.

Deputy Sacramento County District Attorney Thien Ho argued the motion from Joseph DeAngelo's lawyers didn't even use the correct law in their attempt to block Sheriff's detectives from taking DNA samples, fingerprints and photos of DeAngelo's body.

However, Judge Michael Sweet says the Supreme Court has allowed everything from fingerprints to cheek swabs. California law only allows DNA collection at felony arrests.

DeAngelo's Public Defender Diane Howard had no comment, other than to say she's working to give him the "vigorous defense" to which he's entitled.

Next court date is May 14th.
