State Lawmaker From San Diego Applauds CA Governor's Border Decision

The California Senate president pro tem is applauding Governor Gavin Newsom's planned move at the border.

Democratic state Senator Toni Atkins says, " the only emergency at the border is the one created by the federal government’s refusal to fulfill its responsibility to assist vulnerable families seeking asylum," then she added, "and I stand by Governor Newsom’s decision to redeploy them from the border to places where they will be of far more value to our residents."

Newsom plans to announce on Tuesday during his first State of the State address that 260 troops will be redeployed from the border to other areas around the state.

Newsom will be the second of four governors to remove troops from the border in a rebuke to the Trump administration. New Mexico Governor Michelle Grisham was the first. More than 17-hundred troops will reportedly remain at the border in Texas and Arizona.
