"Rape Day" Won't See the Light of Day

It looks like "Rape Day" won't see the light of day.

Nine months after Valve Software said they wouldn't censor games on its digital gaming platform "Steam", the company has announced it will not distribute a game called, "Rape Day". The game was slated for an April release and and as its name suggests, its a sexually violent game that takes place during a Zombie Apocalypse. The game includes acts of rape, infanticide, necrophilia and incest. STEAM is a platform and did not develop the game.

A petition against the release of "Rape Day" circulated on change.org last week and was signed by 8000 people. "We need to let reviewers know that a game centered on raping and killing women is unacceptable and cannot hit the market," it reads.

A Supreme Court ruling in 2011 made sure Video games are protected under the First Amendment. The company said yesterday in a statement that, "they respect developer's desire to express themselves but that the developer of "rape day" has chosen content that makes it difficult for us to help them do that."
