Kids See the River for the 1st Time Thanks to The Water Forum/Effie Yeaw

On May 13 and 14, Kindergarten and first-grade students from Elder Creek Elementary School in Sacramento visited the Nature Center for a hands-on, immersive learning experience about the lower American River. Students learned about river ecology, salmon and their role in the environment, water quality, pollution and how to make a difference in protecting this resource and its inhabitants.

The Water Forum and Effie Yeaw Nature Center are partnering to expand environmental educational programs for under-served kindergartners and first-graders at Title 1 elementary schools in Sacramento County. Today a couple of busloads of kids visited Effie Yeaw and Lily Allen, a scientist focusing on ecosystem restoration with The Water Forum was there, too. Listen to her interview below.
