Shots Fired At An Unmarked Police Vehicle In West Sac

Police in West Sacramento are investigating after someone shot at an officer in an unmarked police car Wednesday morning. The officer was driving northbound on Village Parkway near Davis Road just before 7:00 a.m. when shots were fired.

The investigation was still active as of midday Wednesday, and police are unsure if the shooting was random or targeted. Authorities said that an old, red SUV with multiple passengers in the back seat, crossed the unmarked police car's path and opened fire. One round hit the vehicle without injuring the officer inside.

Roads in the area were closed while police searched for the shooter. SWAT officers, K-9 officers, and a police helicopter were assisting in that search. Authorities said that roads could be closed around the shooting scene for several hours.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact police.

No other details have been released at this time.
