The discussion by the Sacramento City Council on Tuesday regarding a potential homeless shelter for the Meadowview area drew the attention of the executive director of the National Alliance on Mental illness David Bain, who also lives in Meadowview.
The shelter would serve exclusively women and children. The latest city census shows there are approximately 280 homeless women and children on Sacramento streets on any given night.
However, there has pushback from some Meadowview area residents and council members.
Bain spoke with Cristina Mendonsa on Tuesday ahead of the council meeting.
