Sacramento High School Provides Setting For PD Active Shooter Drill

The Sacramento Police Department on Thursday conducted an active shooter training at Hiram Johnson High School. Public Information Officer Karl Chan said the training was intended to give officers firsthand experience in dealing with such a threat on a campus and in classrooms by using student volunteers.

"The goal is to make sure that our patrol officers are trained with the right techniques and the right tactics to respond effectively," said Chan.

Officers also used guns loaded with blanks to create a more realistic simulation. About 40 officers participated in the training exercise. Chan said active shooter training is necessary of the increasing number of violent incidents at schools across America in recent years.
