Listen to the iHeartRadio interview: Claire Lipschultz leads advocacy and education for the Sacramento Section of The National Council of Jewish Women, a national grassroots advocacy organization driven by Jewish values to help repair the world. She is also on the National Board of Directors of NCJW.
Claire was inspired to support and protect healthcare workers during the COVID 19 crisis after hearing about the shortage of personal protective equipment from her son and daughter in law, who work at UC hospitals in SF.
After researching DIY mask tutorials and local needs , Claire capitalized on her organizing and networking skills to recruit over 30 volunteers to sew masks while they shelter in place. Mask kits are assembled, home delivered to volunteers and finished masks are picked up.
In the past few weeks, NCJW Sac volunteers have produced 200 masks with another 100 in the making. These will be delivered to Mercy and other provider systems and Women;s Empowerment, which serves women experiencing homelessness.
Due to the bandwidth of volunteers and access to materials, the project has only committed to making 300 masks. They could possibly commit to making more with more volunteers and material.
