Salvation Army Provides 6,000 Meals to First Responders, Wildfire Evacuees

Listen to the iHeartMedia interview with Major Ivan Wild with the Sacramento area Salvation Army. The Salvation Army is continuing to respond to the LNU Lighting Complex burning across five counties in Northern California. Our crews are feeding first responders and evacuees in more than a dozen locations. Since we first began our wildfire response last Tuesday, we have served at least 6,000 meals.

Our largest response is currently in Napa County, where The Salvation Army is serving meals at 8 wildfire sites, including six hotels, the Emergency Operations Center, and Crosswalk Church, at 2590 1stStreet in Napa. The church is operating as a public evacuation area. All meals are being prepared by the Napa Valley Culinary Training Academy. It’s a 4-week program which helps men and women who’ve overcome addiction and homelessness gain crucial training to enter the culinary fields.

In Vacaville, The Salvation Army continues to serve at The Mission Church, which is operating as a staging area for first responders. They began serving hours after the fire began last Wednesday, August 29, and continue to provide breakfast, lunch and dinner to those who are working hard to keep everyone safe from the wildfire.

In Yuba City, The Salvation Army is serving evacuees at two hotels. Evacuees were from the Jones Fire in Nevada County, but now that evacuations have been lifted in that area, evacuees are being brought in from other fires throughout Northern California.

The Salvation Army is thankful to community partners who have stepped up to help us serve evacuees and first responders. Partners such as CBS13 in Sacramento, Door Dash, McDonalds, KFC, Clif Bar & Company, West Coast Taco Bar, and so many more.
