Tower Records Returns As Website Selling Vinyl, Cassettes, CDs

You may have thought Tower Records was gone for good after the Sacramento-based company declared bankruptcy and closed all of its stores 14 years ago. Well, think again.

Tower Records has been reborn as an online service, according to Deadline. The website features an online events section, the return of Tower Pulse! magazine, a merchandise section, and all kinds of music, including vinyl and cassette.

The company's new CEO, Danny Zeijdel, said they've received a lot of positive feedback. He noted that customers are even going so far as to post pictures of their Tower deliveries on Instagram.

Russ Salomon started Tower Records in Sacramento back in 1960. Eventually, a chain of stores became an international phenomonon, and the late Solomon was memorialized in a 2015 film, All Things Must Pass.

Solomon's Delicatessen-- a name chosen to honor Russ Salmon-- opened inside the former Tower Records store at 730 K Street in Sacramento.

The new online version of Tower Records was reportedly due to be introduced at the 2020 edition of the South by Southwest music festival, but the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
