Forecasters with the National Weather Service in Sacramento say you'll see active weather during the early part of this first full week of 2021. A winter storm is expected to bring moderate rain, heavy mountain snow, and breezy winds to much of Northern California. The heaviest snow is expected for Monday afternoon into the evening and mountain travel during this time will be very difficult.
There is a chance for thunderstorms in the afternoon across the Sacramento Valley and adjacent foothills mainly north of Sacramento. Thunderstorms will be capable of heavy rain, small hail, and maybe a funnel cloud.
The moderate rain expected Monday combined with the thunderstorm threat has also brought a Flash Flood Watch for the North Complex Burn Scar. Rain and snow will quickly diminish during the evening with dry weather settling in overnight. Another system will bring rain and snow chances to the area for Wednesday. Additional rain and snow is expected on Friday.
