In a press conference held Thursday morning in Southern California, Governor Newsom announced that state will expand it's vaccine eligibility. Those over 50 years old can get vaccinated starting on April 1st and those over the age of 16 starting on April 15th. Also announced, Newsom says starting now, a family member who accompanies an eligible person to their appointment can also get a shot, no questions asked. With the eligibility expansion, the state is planning ahead for an onslaught of demand. Even with the expansion, vaccination of all willing Californians will take several months. The expansion of vaccine eligibility is dependent on an increase of vaccine supplies which have been the largest challenge to getting shots into people's arms.
"So in just a few weeks, there will be no rules, no limitations as it relates to the ability to get a vaccine administered," Newsom said in his Thursday news conference.
