SacAnime hosted hundreds of fans over the weekend.
The in-person event on Saturday served about 300 people, a fraction of attendance in a typical year, usually more than 20,000. According to public health guidelines, face masks were required, and high-contact activities like karaoke, meet-and-greet panels and cosplay shows were canceled. The event carried on in swap meet fashion, following California Department of Public Health guidelines, which allowed limited capacity to 50%, physical and closed common areas.
Nonetheless, event officials, fans and vendors alike celebrated the return of in-person festivities, making SacAnime one of the largest indoor gatherings the Greater Sacramento Region had seen in a year.
