The noose pictured in the Placerville city logo is officially being removed. The City Council unanimously voted 5-to-0 last night after comments from the public and council members, ultimately deciding to scrub the noose from city logo. The noose was initially meant to symbolize the city nicknamed Hangtown's history of capital punishment during the gold rush in the 19th-and-early-20th centuries. Those in favor of removing the noose argue the symbol and nod to public hangings are outdated, and offensive to certain groups.
