Local Filmmakers Highlight The Struggles Of Chinese Immigrants

A documentary produced by Larissa Lam and Baldwin Chiu, a husband-wife team from Sacramento will be airing nationally in Early May. The film is called, "Far East - Deep South." It's a seldom-told history of Chinese immigrants living in the American South during the late 1800s to mid-1900s.

The film looks at not only one family's quest for answers to their past but racial dynamics, historical immigration and the Chinese Exclusion Act which erased the traceable genealogy for many Chinese families:The film looks at not only one family's quest for answers to their past but racial dynamics, historical immigration and the Chinese Exclusion Act which erased the traceable genealogy for many Chinese families:Baldwin, whose family the film is based upon, is a Sac State graduate and says the goal is not only historical but educational and stresses this isn't just an Asian American story.
