Days before a set strike, the Sacramento City School District and the union representing the school workers have reached a tentative agreement on how to continue with reopening procedures. A marathon mediation session between Sacramento City Unified School District and classified workers represented by SEIU 1021 produced a tentative agreement that both sides believe will allow SCUSD to safely welcome all students back to in-person learning. As a result, Unfair Labor Practice strike that had been scheduled for later this week is now canceled. The agreement to bring Sacramento students back to school is expected to be signed Tuesday. The district says the agreement includes physical distancing, face coverings, hand hygiene, and screenings. Local schools started phasing students back to in-person instruction on April 8th, about a year since they were last in the classroom.
