A Cal graduate swimmer is heading to the Olympics.
23 year old Katie McLaughlin just qualified for the team during the Olympic trials on Wednesday. She is heading to Tokyo next month with Stanford’s Katie Ledecky, representing Team USA in the 4 by 200 relay. McLaughlin spent her time the past year training and being a swim coach at North Bay Aquatics in Marin County. An ecstatic reaction of McLaughlin’s students watching her qualify on the team is on Instagram.
The top-four finishers Wednesday — Ledecky, Schmitt, Madden and McLaughlin — are favorites to race in finals this summer.
