- Recall election has been set for September 14th. The California Department of Finance says the election will cost taxpayers 276-million dollars. Democrats think Newsom has the advantage in the recall if they vote early. Newsom has recently passed a bill that would expedite the election process, leading to Thursday's announcement calling for the special election in mid-September.
- John Cox was in Sacramento with his ball of trash to symbolize homelessness and trash build-up in the state. He is one of the several Republican candidates running against Newsom in the recall election.
- California homicides are up over 30% from 2020. Sacramento County alone saw 100 homicides in that year. Gun sales reflect that with a significant increase in sales last year.
- California grid officials asking for others to divert power to the state because of a lack of hydro power amid drought and heat waves. This may be setting us up for more power shut offs and rolling blackouts this fire season in order to conserve power.
- A few major fires still burning in the Northern Part of the state. The Lava Fire surrounding Mt. Shasta burning near the town of Weed (Siskiyou County) is currently just under 20,000 acres and sits at 19% containment. Another Siskiyou County Fire, the Tennant Fire, has burned around 9,400 acres and is 6% contained. Another fire North of Sacramento, the Salt Fire outside of Redding is 4,500 acres in size and is 0% contained. Threatened to shut down parts of 1-5 Northbound Thursday.
