Plumas County Complex Fire Flares Up, Prompts More Evacuations

A mandatory evacuation order is in effect in Plumas County where a wildfire is growing. The Beckwourth Complex Fire is made up of two fires, the Sugar Fire and the Dotta Fire. The Sugar Fire reportedly jumped containment lines over night, spreading another 1,800 acres and prompting more evacuations. The evacuation order says residents from Beckwourth-Genesee to Harrison Ranch roads should leave the area immediately as well as those around the Frenchman Lake Cove are. An evacuation center is being set up at Portola Station, located at 171 Gulling Street, Portola, California.

Officials say gusty winds pushed the Sugar Fire over the containment line around 5 p.m. Tuesday and new evacuations came down before noon on Wednesday. The blaze is moving toward Reconnaissance Peak. Currently, firefighters and air support are responding aggressively to the fire. The Forest Service in the Plumas National Forest and Cal-Fire Lassen-Modoc are the responding units. Overall for the complex fire, over 3,000 acres have burned and over 270 firefighters are responding.
