The Caldor Fire continues to burn in El Dorado this morning with zero containment.
As of 7am this morning, Cal Fire reports the blaze is now over 73,000 acres. The losses are still being counted, but 7,000 structures are still threatened and more than 25,000 people have been evacuated. Evacuation warnings were issued Wednesday for northern areas along the Amador County line near Highway 88. While residents are not required to evacuate under a warning, first responders still urge you to do so in case a wildfire spreads at an explosive pace, according to KCRA.
As of Thursday, Cal Fire said 104 structures had been confirmed destroyed. Nearly 7,000 structures remain threatened. A debris pile and playground equipment were all that remained at Walt Tyler Elementary School in Grizzly Flats. KCRA 3 reporter Lysée Mitri said she also witnessed a post office that was destroyed.
"We know this fire has done things that nobody could have predicted, but that's how firefighting has been in the state this year," Eldorado National Forest Supervisor Chief Jeff Marsolais said.
