Damages From Tropical Storm Ida Expected To Worsen Today

The damages from Tropical Storm Ida are expected to pile on today across southern Louisiana, southern Mississippi and southern Alabama. 

More people near New Orleans are being told to move to higher ground as floor warnings are issues amid massive power outages. Power could be out for days or even weeks. 

Hurricane Ida knocked out a major tower that powers most of Orleans and Jefferson parishes into the Mississippi River. The tower carries all eight transmission lines that bring electricity to nearly a million homes and businesses. Heavy rainfall and flash flood threats continue over much of Mississippi, Alabama and the western Florida Panhandle. Ida hit on the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina devastating New Orleans. The city's levees system, which failed during Katrina, has been fortified since then.
