- Governor Gavin Newsom is signing two laws to protect abortion privacy. Newsom put his signature on Assembly Bill 1184, which makes it so sensitive medical information is only provided to the patient and no one else on the health care plan. He also signed AB 1356, which makes it illegal to post photos, videos or personal information online of anyone at reproductive health facilities. The same law extends protections to the 100 feet surrounding the facilities' entrance.
- There is bill on the desk of Governor Newsom that would ban the sale of gas-powered generators in California. A state where the power is routinely cut off by PG&E. The bill is designed to reduce emissions by banning gas powered engines in lawnmowers, leaf blowers, and generators. Critics are urging the governor the veto the bill, especially the portion that covers generators.
- Paul Flores and his father will stand trial in California in connection with the 1996 disappearance of Kristin Smart. That's what a San Luis Obispo County judge decided Wednesday. Flores will be tried for murder, while his father faces charges of being an accessory to a crime. The 19-year-old Smart went missing nearly 25 years ago and Flores was reportedly the last person seen with her.
- California farm workers, who are upset with Governor Newsom, are planning to march this week to the French Laundry restaurant in Napa Valley. They're critical of Governor Newsom's recent veto of a bill that would've allowed them to vote by mail for union votes. French Laundry is the high-end restaurant where Newsom was seen dining and drinking when he had ordered Californians to stay away from restaurants during the pandemic.
