- Governor Newsom is making voting by mail a permanent part of elections in California. The new legal requirements mean every legally registered voter in the state will receive a mail-in ballot. A voter can also opt to vote in person on election day if they don't want to mail in their ballot.
- Thousands of Californians are petitioning Governor Newsom to veto a bill that would mandate an ethnic studies high school graduation requirement. AB 101 now sits on Governor Newsom's desk. He has until October 10th to act.
- A federal judge has ordered prison guards and other jail employees in California to get vaccinated. Unions have two weeks to come up with a plan to vaccinate more than 66,000 prison employees, along with any inmates who choose to work outside the prisons.
- California continues to have the lowest levels of coronavirus cases in the country. CDC data indicates cases and hospitalizations have sharply declined in California. About 59% of the state is vaccinated against COVID-19, slightly higher than the U.S. average of 57%.
