Supplemental paid sick leave spurred by the Covid-19 pandemic is set to expire at the end of the month, taking away the extra 80 hours of sick time granted to employees in the state in regards to Coronavirus illness or need to quarantine. Senate Bill 95 will expire this Thursday, September 30th, a bill that took effect back in March. Those faced with vaccine related side effects, quarantine requirements or those testing positive for Covid were able to apply this supplemental leave on top of the normal allotted amount. Efforts to expand sick leave failed in the past state legislative sessions while cases in California have been trending downward in recent weeks. While the supplemental covid sick time is expiring, California law still allows for three weeks of paid sick time for all employees.
