- The first coronavirus vaccine for kids as young as five is ready to go. Parents can start making appointments today after the CDC signed off last night. Pfizer's vaccine will be given in smaller doses, one-third of what teens and adults receive.
- PG&E Corp. says the Dixie Fire will cost the utility at least $1.15 billion — and has triggered a federal investigation. PG&E said in a regulatory filing Monday that it has received a subpoena by the U.S. attorney’s office in Sacramento over its potential role in the mega-fire. The Dixie Fire burned 963,309 acres over a three-month span and destroyed much of the small Plumas County community of Greenville.
- Recent storms in California brought much-needed relief for firefighters, but even with record-breaking rainfall, extreme drought conditions still remain. That has two Central Valley congressmen renewing the call for increasing water allotments for farmers. Republican Representatives David Valadao and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy recently sent a letter to President Biden and Governor Newsom requesting a federal and state emergency declaration related to the drought so farms can get more water. They also call for lifting environmental restrictions on pumping water from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.
- More wet weather is on its way to the Sacramento region. The National Weather Service reports Northern California is expected to see some rain Wednesday night, with heavier precipitation coming by Sunday. Areas like Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe may see up to a quarter-inch of rainfall by Thursday morning, while Grass Valley, Redding, and Yuba City may see even more. The mid-week system is expected to die down before the larger storm rolls in this weekend, maybe bringing up to two inches of rain. Additionally, the NWS reports temperatures in Sacramento will fall throughout the week from mid-60's, dipping into the 40's.
