More than 70% of eligible Sac City Unified students aged 12 and older have not reported their vaccine status to the district by the November 30th deadline.
Some students may be fully vaccinated but have not reported it, so District officials are currently reaching out to families who did not file their status. The Sacramento City Unified school board voted in October to mandate COVID-19 vaccines for all eligible students and staff. By Nov. 30, all eligible students and staff have to show proof of their first or second dose of the coronavirus vaccine.
From Nov. 30 through Jan. 31, 2022, the district will reach out to those who have not submitted vaccination proof or an exemption request. By Feb. 1, 2022, all eligible, non-exempt students who are not vaccinated will be assigned to the district's Independent Study Program. Staff who have not complied with the mandate may face disciplinary action, including placement on unpaid leave or losing their jobs, according to KCRA.
David Fisher, the teachers' union president, told KCRA 3 that teachers support the student vaccine mandate but think "the district has been a little slow in implementation."
