- Forecasters say two storm systems are on their way to Northern California, bringing the most severe weather seen in weeks to the region. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the higher elevations of the northern Sierra for Wednesday night into Thursday evening. Unsettled weather is expected to continue into next week with another system brewing as soon as Sunday night.
- A California murder case that captivated the nation is about to take a big turn in court. Scott Peterson plans to speak out this morning when he's re-sentenced for killing his pregnant wife and their unborn son. It happened in 2002 on Christmas Eve, just a month before Laci was due to give birth. Her family will be there today and making statements as well. Peterson's death sentence was overturned last year because of an error made by a judge. A hearing in February will determine if he gets a new trial.
- Teachers at Sacramento's Hiram Johnson High School are speaking out. They say the level of on-campus violence and serious incidents is unprecedented with teachers and staff caught in the middle and sustaining serious injuries. One teacher tells KFBK News Radio that there's no "urgency" being given to the current climate of violence on campus, with the lack of administrative action and absence of protocol enforcement to ensure the campus stays safe.
- Family and friends along with the community at Sac State are mourning the loss of Donald Gerth who was the longest serving president in history of Sacramento state. Gerth passed away Monday at the age of 93. He's been the University's leader from 1984 until his retirement in 2003. Some of the many contributions he's made include creating the School of the Arts, the Center for California Studies, and the Center for Public Policy Dispute Resolution. Gerth is survived by his wife of 66 years Beverly.
