Local Woman Learns Airline Doesn't Recognize a Centenarian

At 100, Ann Watson is a role model for aging. She plays bridge many times each week, walks surprising distances, loves checking out new restaurants - and she travels.

Just recently she flew to Tennessee for a riverboat cruise from Memphis deep into Louisiana. She traveled with a younger friend - a lady in her 80 s.

The trip was fabulous except for one glitch - apparently Delta airline doesn’t recognize 1921 as a valid birth year. How could a passenger today be 100? On the trip down the birthdate was switched to 2021, and Ann had to wait on line for 50 minutes to straighten things out.

For the return flight her travel agent tried to correct the date, but Delta agents told her their system wouldn’t accept the date. So they entered her birth year as 1922 and she made it home safely.

Such are the challenges of travel these days, but Ann is not daunted. She is already planning her next trip.
