The State of California is adding booster shots to the COVID vaccine requirement for healthcare workers.

Governor Gavin Newsom made the announcement on social media and said more details would be released today.

The CDC says omicron is already the dominant COVID strain in the U-S less than a month after the first case was confirmed. On Monday, Federal officials revealed that the Omicron variant accounted for 73% of all new infections last week. Infections and deaths among those who are unvaccinated continue to outpace vaccinated individuals. New requirements for vaccine mandates have also recently reached the university level, with University of California officials on Tuesday reporting that eligible staff and students must get the booster shot before the beginning of the winter quarter or spring semester in order to be considered vaccinated.

Governor Newsom will be addressing more details on the new health are worker requirement at a press event later today.
