- California Senator Dr. Richard Pan and Assemblymember Evan Low have introduced new bill, Assembly 2098. The bill would combat coronavirus misinformation from licensed physicians and surgeons.
- Local school districts make masking optional or removed completely following school board decisions. The El Dorado Union High School District is not making masks a requirement inside classrooms. The school district said through a statement they are going to ask students to wear a mask, but not force them to leave a classroom for not wearing one. The policy is defying the state guideline of keeping masks on while in schools. This comes after a huge student walkout yesterday over the school mask mandate. The Roseville Joint Union High School District has also made masks optional for students. The resolution called the school mask mandate ill advised. The district's teachers union are against the new mask policy, adding they were not informed ahead of time about the decision to make them optional. Cal/OSHA says district employees still need to wear masks inside classrooms.
- The Sleep Train Arena site is going to look different in the future. The Sacramento City Council approved a project for the area yesterday, turning it into a residential, commercial and retail space. It will have restaurants, parks, bike trails, a medical hospital, and campus. Vice Mayor Angelique Ashby represents the Natomas area and has been working on making the project a reality for ten years. Funding for the renovation project is still in the works, but some council members say getting it approved is the first step towards a financial plan.
- A school board members recall measure is a success in San Francisco's special election. The Chronicle reports that by a wide margin yesterday voters chose to get rid of school board President Gabriela Lopez and board members Alison Collins and Gaauuga Molida. In a statement Mayor London Breed said the election result shows that community members want the city's public schools to "focus on the essentials of delivering a well-run school system above all else." Recall organizers say the school board's decision not to have kids return to the classroom after the COVID-19 shutdown was unacceptable to many parents which led them to push for the recall vote.
