Caltrans officials are warning there could be delays for those driving on Highway 50 near Echo Summit.
In the wake of multiple rock slides, Caltrans officials are planning to tackle the loose hillside above Echo Summit head this week. The transportation agency warned drivers using Highway 50 to South Lake Tahoe to expect delays.
Traffic controls starting this morning as crews work to bring down more loose rocks to stave off a larger closure by doing rock scaling and slope stabilization work. Vehicles will be detoured at Johnson Pass Road with one-way traffic and should expect delays up to 30 minutes.
According to a Cal Trans official release, the following are the detours that will be in effect :
- Monday, March 21 – noon to 6 p.m.
- Tuesday, March 22 through Thursday, March 24 – 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Friday, March 25 – 7 a.m. to noon
